How Is the ORPCF Adaptable to Organization-Specific Needs?

SORP · July 16, 2026

No two organizations are alike — and neither are their workforce development needs. This session explores how the Outdoor Recreation Professional Competency Framework is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing agencies, nonprofits, and organizations of all sizes to tailor it to their unique contexts, missions, and staffing structures. Participants will learn practical strategies for mapping the framework to existing job descriptions, performance evaluations, and training programs. Real-world examples will illustrate how organizations are adapting the framework to reflect their specific priorities while maintaining alignment with the broader profession.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain how the framework's structure allows for organizational customization
  • Identify strategies for mapping competencies to existing job descriptions and performance management systems
  • Apply a process for prioritizing competencies relevant to their organization's mission and workforce needs
  • Describe examples of how different types of organizations are using the framework

Presenters:

  • Amanda Noyes, U.S. Forest Service
  • Christy Tafoya, Retired Director of NM State Parks
  • Kris Wahlers, Colorado Parks and Wildlife
