Virginia Outdoors Plan 2024

SORP · May 8, 2026

The Virginia Outdoors Plan StoryMap presents Virginia’s statewide vision for connecting communities with outdoor recreation opportunities while protecting the natural and scenic resources that contribute to quality of life across the Commonwealth. Developed to support LWCF eligibility and guide statewide recreation priorities, the StoryMap communicates the state’s strategies, planned actions, and investment priorities in an interactive and visually engaging format.

This resource serves as an example for other states exploring ways to modernize and improve the communication of their SCORP process and outcomes. By combining maps, graphics, narrative storytelling, and accessible web design, the Virginia Outdoors Plan StoryMap demonstrates how states can make complex planning information easier for the public, stakeholders, and decision-makers to understand and engage with. It can be used as a model for developing interactive SCORP websites, digital reports, and public-facing engagement tools that increase transparency, accessibility, and public interest in statewide outdoor recreation planning.
